How to buy a wedding dress (in four steps)
For most brides, their wedding day is the day of their lives. And for a day like that you need the best dress ever, of course. But how do you find the dress of your dreams?
Step 1: Determine what your ideal dress is
The first phase is most fun, but it is also the hardest: what kind of wedding dress would you most love to have? Don't think of budgets, your figure, which may not look quite the way it should and other matters that are - for now - unimportant. What is the wedding dress you have always dreamt of? How have you always imagined yourself on your wedding day? Would you like to be a traditional bride or just a very modern one? Would you like to get married in a coloured dress or a white one? Try to choose between those things. Leaf through bridal and fashion magazines and check out, for instance, the wedding dresses that Hollywood stars wore on their Big Day. As soon as you know what you want, the other steps are not that hard anymore.
Step 2: Determine what dress fits you best
Okay, you can see your dream dress before you now. The next step is taking your figure into account. Take a good look at your body and decide which parts of it you wish to emphasize and which ones you wish to camouflage. Once you have decided on that, you can go and check which silhouette fits your body type best: - A-line- Empire line- Ball gown- Mermaid dress- Straight. Aside from that it is important that you think about the lenght of your wedding dress. This also has to do with the location of your wedding. If you have a wedding ceremony in the woods, make sure that your dress is not too long, because otherwise you might have problems with mud and leaves. Also decide whther you want to have a train or not and how long it should be. Also important when trying to find the dress of dresses are the neck and backline. Do you want a closed neckline, a cleavage or a corset, for instance? And would you like a backless wedding dress or one with a high fit? Lastly, you will have to think about the sleeves of your wedding dress. Some brides have sturdy upper arms and therefore choose wedding clothes with a small elegant sleeve. Others would rather go for a sleeveless wedding dress or a wedding dress with see-through sleeves without to many frills. The choice is up to you!
Step 3: Determine what your budget is
Of course you may want a wedding dress like the one Jennifer Lopez wore, the question is, however, if you can and want to pay as much for it as she did. Determine together with your very own groom what you can and want to spend on wedding clothes. If you are on a tight budget, you can also buy a simple dress that you can decorate with all kinds of accessories. As soon as you know what the budget is, the shopping can start!
Step 4: Shopping without stress
Now that you know what you want and how much you can spend on it, you can start shopping. It is important that you find a store in which you feel at ease and in which you feel you will be able to find what you are looking for. The number one shop for the modern bride is Assepoester Trouwjurken. And if you don't feel like looking like princess Sissi at her wedding, but would rather go for that beautiful, elegant, trendy wedding dress, our doors are open wide for you. There is no need to order or make an appointment (just come by and pay us a visit whenever you feel like it) and you are almost guaranteed to find what you like. Additionally, you can relax and browse through the racks by yourself without the staff cramping your style or having you removed from the store when you touch anything. It is okay if you want to touch our wedding dresses. An additional nice thing is that we sell affordable wedding dresses in all price ranges. With that Assepoester Trouwjurken is the store for all belles of the ball. In any case, take examples with you of bridal fashion you like as well as the shoes that you want to wear under your wedding dress (if you have found them already, that is, because otherwise you can also buy them at our store!). And don't take your hysterical mother in-law shopping with you, but someone that can give you good shopping advice. And remember: you are the bride and no one else is. Be sure to wear fitting friendly underwear such as a strapless bra and flattering underpants in order to be able to judge the fit of the dresses correctly. Putting on some make-up before you go to the bridal shop is also handy: if you look good, it will be easier to picture yourself as a bride and you will be a real wedding belle soon...
