Interview with Alexa
Personal
1. Education / work experience?
I studied to become a hairdresser, but I never use those skills anymore. After school, I started modelling, which I still do and I worked in a number of clothing shops. Eventually, this led me to Assepoester because I saw an advert in the newspaper. I sent in an application letter right away and to this day, Assepoester boss E. still laughs in my face because of that letter! But, well, I really wanted to work there and so I wrote the letter in ten minutes. After that, I simply walked in and was granted an interview.
2. Married/ Engaged/ In love /Divorced/Kids?
In love, living together and the proud owner of a cat! Yesterday I bought this great Barbie pink bench for her so that I can easily take her with me! Isn’t that great?
3. What are your hobbies?
Shopping of course; I love clothing and shoes (and have far too much of both, haha), fashion and cooking. I like to cook all kinds of things! World cuisine, but also Italian and I love to try out Asian dishes. So I make chicken teriyaki on the barbecue for instance, haha! My cat is a big hobby of mine as well. Cookie is the most spoilt cat in the world! She gets that special type of expensive cat food from the pet shop. I had to pay over 90 euros for cat food the other day! My boyfriend said: “Cookie gets more presents than I do!”
4. What is your favourite colour?
Purple and pink always make me happy. Real girly colours.
because of the application letter I once wrote”
5. What is your favourite movie?
I really like mobster movies; I think Casino is really good. And The Departed. But sometimes I also like dumb movies. Scary Movie and such…
6. Favourite cocktail/drink?
I always like a tequila sunrise, but I can also appreciate the less exiting Pina Colada. In fact, I’m always in the mood for one of those, especially when lying on the beach.
7. What’s on you iPod?
All kinds of stuff. I have so many cds in the car! Sade, but also UB40, Bob Marley and The Red Hot Chili Peppers; I went to their concert recently. But I’m also into Dutch music, haha! André Hazes, for instance.
8. Finish this sentence: when I grow up, I….
… In ten years time I will be lying at the beach with a pina colada in my hand, wearing beautiful bikinis and be surrounded by great food. And maybe I’ll have loads of children by then.
Assepoester
9. What is it like to be an Assepoester?
Great fun! It is great to work at Assepoester with all these nice people! My colleagues are fantastic. And I love it when we receive new dresses. There’s always something happening at Assepoester; the shop is updated regularly.
10. How do you become an Assepoester? Do you have any advice?
You have to have an opinion of your own and you have to let it be heard. In short, you have to have guts. And always be yourself!
11. What is your Arnhems Meisje feeling?
Arnhems Meisje makes me think of craziness, playfulness, colour and sweetness. To me, those words sum up Arnhems Meisje.
12. What is the greatest address from the Roze Boekje (pink booklet)?
There should be one more address in the book!!! www.annickgoutal.nl; she creates the greatest scents. Lovely!
13. What Assepoester day will you never forget?
The day of the photo shoot we all did together was great fun. It was a very special day. There are no other jobs in which the entire team of employees has a photo shoot!
14. How can a client make you happy (what kind of present)?
With great earrings, a nice fashion item of H&M or a great belt from Mango or something. And body lotion by Spa; that is so yummy!
the shop is updated regularly.”
15. Who would you love to have as a client?
Sophie Hilbrand! She is fun, down to earth and just a great woman. I would also love to help Birgit Schuurman.
Arnhem
16. What’s so great about Arnhem?
Arnhem is beautiful; it is snug, cosy and small with a beautiful forest and beautiful houses. All pubs are comfortably close to one another. It just looks great!
17. What is your favourite other store in Arnhem?
I don’t shop that often in Arnhem anymore, because I live in Den Haag now. And Assepoester is the greatest store anyway, so there! Haha!
In Den Haag I always like to go to Puurr and Donna Tienda. I also often go to a little store where they sell Italian delicatessen; great pasta’s, sauces and cheeses and such. If I want to grab a pasta, I will do so at Sapore. And I drink coffee at Dishy every day.
18. What is your favourite restaurant/cafe/club in Arnhem?
I always like to go out and eat at De Bok. And there’s a great Italian in the Bakkerstraat; La Rusticana. Brasserie Zicht, at the Rijnkade, is always great too.
Mode & glamour
19. If you had to design your own (formal) evening dress, what would it look like?
A bit in the style of Valentino and Chanel. Nice, classic, a bit in ’60 style à la Audrey Hepburn. The main thing is that it should be feminine and maybe have lace. And I think it should be long. With a small train.
20. Who are your favourite models?
I’ve always considered Cindy Crawford very beautiful. She is really good and she has a classic look. And now our very own Doutzen Kroes, of course!
21. What is your absolute horror outfit?
I think sandals look really awful on a woman. And unshaved legs covered by wide dungarees combined with a dirty white t-shirt. Very wrong.
And I also don’t like formal evening dresses in a wrong colour, made out of the wrong fabric with nasty glitters or a nasty print on them. Yuck!
22. And what is your favourite outfit for going out?
I like it best if it is as simple as possible. Nice and basic. I always make sure that my hair looks okay and that I wear beautiful make-up and I prefer to wear jeans. Skinny or with a bit of a carrot shape with very high heels under them. It looks brazen, sexy and feminine at the same time. I also like to wear great earrings when I go out.
23. Favourite designer?
Marc Jacobs is very good: very feminine. I think Dsquared are top notch too: brazen, feminine. If I could choose who I would like to work for as a model, it would be Chanel.
24. Biggest fashion disaster ever?
I never appeared with a fashion disaster in the magazines, haha! No, I think I can look back on my photo books without feeling embarrassed. Some styles just belonged to a certain period. We may think those clothes look funny now, but we didn’t think so at the time.
However, I did often buy things of which I thought when I came home: “What is this anyway?!”
25. When do you feel totally glamorous?
When I wear great lingerie – I find that very important -, have rubbed some body lotion on my body, wear a great dress with high heels, wear nice earrings and make sure that my hair and make-up are looking great; then I feel totally glam!
